 Exhibition: Ana Maria Pacheco

THE LONGEST JOURNEY - Salisbury Cathedral, North Transept

PRINTS - Salisbury and South Wiltshire Museum

Admission to the Salisbury and South Wiltshire Museum: £6, half price ticket on presentation of a 2012 Festival brochure for the duration of the Festival only. One brochure per adult.
Opening hours: Monday to Saturday 10am-5pm
Sunday 12pm-5pm (open June-September only)

Ana Maria Pacheco is a Brazilian artist who has been living and working in the UK for almost forty years. Her work is evolved from a tradition of making which lies between South American and European culture, between ancient magic and twentieth century art. It draws for example on medieval art, expressionist language, catholic ritual, renaissance art, and classical mythology; and just as the tragic, the savage, the grotesque or the voracious can be found intertwined with grace and wisdom in these traditions, so we find them here. The work belongs to the present, but has its sources also in the continuum of scholarship, craft, mythology, narrative and history that individuals between cultures are often so able to discover and maintain.

Its objective is to stimulate the practice, development and spreading of cultural activities in the scenic, visual and musical arts. The Prague Quadrennial (PQ) aims to explore and present contemporary scenography - including stage, costume,

lighting, sound, and other elements of performance design. The Brazilian National Exhibition PQ’11 examines movements in Brazilian scenography, considering scenography as a thinking and provocative art, at the forefront of culture and representing sensory shelters of characters and ideas. The installation shows the interaction of theatrical scenography, visual arts and popular culture, revealing Brazilian culture, traditional and modern, urban and everyday.
