As the Festival draws to a close with the explosive Party in the Close this Saturday night, the winners from our hotly contested Window Display Competition have been announced.
The Grand Prize winner this year is Neal’s Yard Remedies on the Market Place. Using the theme of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, one of this year’s highlight events held at Old Wardour Castle, they created an inspired display linking the plants in the play to their modern day concoctions. They also created a one off bottle ‘Love Potion’ which became a popular request from their customers!
The runner-up was Splash of Colour on Fisherton Street who created yet another stunning display using the festival themes to decorate plates and bottles. They showed great imagination with their window and put a lot of hard work into creating the unique pieces including an inspired champagne bottle covered in fireworks.
The Competition was judged by Maria Bota, Festival Director, who said:
We send an enormous thank you to all the participating shops in our Festival Window Display Competition. The imaginative window displays have been much admired by visiting artists as well as the many passers-by, and they add a huge amount to the profile of the Festival. We are very grateful. Special congratulations to Neal's Yard Remedies for their window display, which linked beautifully to the text of A Midsummer Night's Dream and included plants mentioned in Shakespeare which are also used in Neal's Yard remedies. And a limited edition of Love Potion...We are looking forward to seeing what all will do with next year's Festival's themes, which will be revealed in December.
The Salisbury Festival Window Display competition is run every year and challenges local shops in Salisbury to make and create a display inspired by the Festival – taking the Festival’s themes, a specific event or the Festival’s colour scheme as a starting point.
Eight shops took part in this year’s competition; In addition to the winners, highly commended were Traveller’s World, Shirley Snells Florist, HR Tribbeck & Son, Tourist Information Centre, Regent’s Tailoring and 21b.
