Over 8500 people flocked to Salisbury’s historic Market Place for the annual Food & Drink Festival on Sunday 19 September.  With over 70 stall holders, live music, children’s activities and plenty to do and see, it’s no surprise why this Festival gets ever more popular each year.

Festival Director Maria Bota said “It’s wonderful to see so many people gathered here in Salisbury to celebrate the best of our food and drink. This year we put on more events during the Sunday market than ever before, ensuring that there was something for everyone to enjoy.   Thank you to Salisbury City Council for continuing to support this great event. ”

Young Jazz set the atmosphere with their big band classics, followed by Salisbury’ very own Singer-Songwriters taking to the stage to the audience’s delight.  The great Waiters’ Race, won this year by La Mollina, saw waiters and waitresses being bound together in a ‘blindfolded, three-legged, egg and spoon race’, while the Fairly Fresh Fish company had children (and grown-ups!) in hysterics with their roaming fish stall that came to life when you got too near.

The Mayor of Salisbury, Cllr Brian Dalton, announced the prize-winners of the Food & Drink Festival’s first ever photo competition, inspired by ‘A Taste of Nature’ and organised by ‘Nature of Art in Wessex’.

In the children’s free activity tent, parents were amazed to see their children enjoying vegetables, courtesy of chef Peter Vaughan who uses the five senses to encourage healthy eating, while others took home superbly decorated cookies made with Jo and Julia at the appropriately named ‘Splat Cookery’.

The Food and Drink Festival is held with the support of Salisbury City Council and delivered by the expert team at Salisbury International Arts Festival.
