On Thursday 16 December the streets of Salisbury will glow with the light of 1000 beautiful lanterns – as the annual Lanterns forSalisbury Parade winds its way from the Salisbury Arts Centre to the Cathedral Close in what is now the biggest Christmas lantern parade in the South of England.

The parade will start at 6.30pm from the gardens of the Arts Centre and will parade across the city centre to outside the Great West Doors of the Cathedral where all the lanterneers will be greeted with a Christmas message.

The lanterns have been made in 40 community involvement workshops all over South Wiltshire making lanterns with minority groups of all ages and abilities from Semley, Mere and Zouch in the West all across Salisbury Plain to Tidworth and to Downton, with the City well covered as well.

The project is created and run by the local Salisbury charity, Circular Arts and led by Alex Grant, the project artist.

Salisbury International Arts Festival is a partner within the project providing publicity, and staffing on the night of the parade.

Salisbury Arts Centre is also an active partner within the project providing space, staffing and logistics support.
