 | Hundreds of singers, a huge orchestra and children's choirs take over the glorious Cathedral in this collaborative enterprise between the main choirs in Salisbury, the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra and Salisbury International Arts Festival. Showcasing Bob Chilcott's exceptional talent for large-scale choral writing, |
Salisbury Vespers pays homage to this most ancient of devotional services, combining settings of the traditional Vespers psalms with anonymous early texts and words from the Sarum Primer of 1516.
Chilcott has been involved with choral music all his life including singing and composing music for twelve years with the King's Singers.
The choirs are placed in different parts of the Cathedral, and each is supported by a small ensemble of instrumentalists. There are two orchestras, with the main one under the Spire Crossing. The result promises to be a powerful musical experience.
