 | When eccentric billionaire G.K. Jayaram takes a ride with a humble, kind hearted auto rickshaw driver called Amal, he is so moved by the driver's altruistic nature that he decides to bequeath his entire fortune to him. |
When Jayaram dies, his lawyer has just 30 days to find Amal amongst Delhi's 80,000 rickshaw drivers. Meanwhile his spoilt children do everything they can to prevent Amal from claiming his inheritance.
Capturing the frenetic bustle of Delhi street life, and buoyed by subtle, heart-warming performances, this crowd-pleasing fable proves that sometimes the poorest of men are also the richest. We are delighted to welcome the film's leadactor and co-director Rupinder Nagra, to introduce this UK premiere screening and answer our questions afterwards.
Richie Mehta. 2007. Canada. 101mins. English and Hindi. Recommended Cert 12a.
