Singer Songwriter project

Singer Songwriter is a project that takes place from February to June 2010 as part of our programme to develop the skills and creativity of young musicians in Wiltshire.

If you’re 14 to 18 years old, we are offering you the chance to take part free music opportunities:

·       Week-long courses to help you develop your skills in writing, composing and performing your own songs.

·       Weekend workshops to record demos and rehearse for a performance in Salisbury Live, as part of the Salisbury International Arts Festival.

·       A masterclass/Q&A session with a well-known music artist appearing in the Festival

·       Special recording of songs

We’re keen to get a mix of people from different musical backgrounds, including playing, singing, dj-ing, etc. If you take part, you’ll explore some new musical styles, make new friends and get lots of new ideas for making and performing new material.

You don’t necessarily have to have a lot of previous song-writing or instrumental experience – commitment and potential is what’s most important.

If you’re not yet a confident singer or instrumentalist yourself, there’ll be other performers and musicians who can work with you as well.

But if you’ve already got experience, our music leaders will stretch you further!

To have a chance of performing in Salisbury Live in May, you must be able to attend at least one of our week-long courses (they take place during February and April school holidays in Salisbury and Pewsey) plus at least two weekend workshop sessions.

So, to book your place:

·       sign up online here

or

·       email gill@salisburyfestival.co.uk to request a form

Once you’ve done that, we’ll contact your parent/guardian/carer to confirm your place and give you more information about arrangements. Help with travelling expenses is available if your familiy is on a low income.

There are only 15 places available for each week’s course so don’t delay!

Singer Songwriter is powered by a grant from Youth Music.

Youth Music is one of the National Lottery’s great success stories – a charity established in 1999 with a remit to support music-making activities for some of the UK’s most disadvantaged young people. In just ten years Youth Music has transformed the landscape of musical opportunity in the UK supporting music-making activities of the broadest variety imaginable; from hip-hop and dj-ing to classical and jazz.
