PRESS RELEASE

Salisbury Food & Drink Festival 2008 - A Brilliant Day Out

On Sunday 21st 2008 the historic market square in Salisbury was full to bursting as a footfall of more than 7500 trawled for foodie delights from 10am to 5pm

In what was certainly a resounding success 75 stall holders – representing the best delis, retailers and producers, as well as a selection of restaurants and craft makers from across the region – presented their wares to an enthusiastic crowd . . .  so much so that many stall holders had nothing more to sell at the end of the day.

Bucking the recent trend the weather was glorious all day and the crowds sat in the sun sampling flavours from across the word (all with low food miles!) and enjoying one of the many regional beverages from the beer and wine tent run by Abbey Stores.

Councillor Paul Sample said of the day: ‘Not until you come to Salisbury Food and Drink Festival do you realise the talent and diversity of the food produced and presented in Wiltshire. I hope that the new unitary authority will continue to support this festival as it is of regional importance as a showcase – it is also a brilliant day out. I took my family and we had a terrific time.’

Debbie Rigg, Festival Manager said: ‘We were so blessed with the weather but the real heroes of the day were the wonderful stallholders, a real variety from producers to restaurants, all proudly showing their commitment to good food.’

Food and Drink Festival attendee Rebecca, said ‘the day was perfect for families as the wonderful variety in food meant that everyone could have whatever their heart desired – and all of exceptional flavour and quality’

Entertainment included a treasure hunt, the waiters’ race, cookery demonstrations and Morris Dancing – as well as activities for young people in the Guildhall. The very special Neal’s Yard Remedies herb walk was booked out and all those that took part in this charming exploration of locally grown herbs and their medicinal properties, followed by a delicious Organic Brunch, had a memorable time.

The Food and Drink Festival is held with the support of Salisbury District Council and the Salisbury & Stonehenge Tourism Partnership and delivered by the expert team at Salisbury International Arts Festival.
