Salisbury Food & Drink Festival 2007
Sunday 23rd September 2007 sees the fourth Salisbury Food & Drink Festival taking place in the Market Square, Salisbury. Sixty stall holders will be displaying their wares in a feast of local produce ranging from sausages to cider, sweets to preserves.
The Festival is open from 10am - 5pm and there is plenty to keep visitors entertained throughout the day. Don’t miss the hotly contested waiters’ race with entrants from a variety of Salisbury’s favourite restaurants – with Suzette’s Pancakes defending their title. Salisbury Guildhall invite you to take a gastronomic journey through Salisbury’s past discovering what it was like to eat as a judge, a pauper, a prisoner or a mayor. Back by popular demand is the Tea Dance, first held during the Salisbury International Arts Festival and featuring music by Suite Jazz with complimentary tea and biscuits. Plus there will be a treasure hunt around the Market Square with a range of great prizes and free entertainment for the whole family.
On Thursday 20th September a special screening of Black Gold will take place at Salisbury Arts Centre. Described by The Observer as “angry, good humoured and essential” it’s an eye-opening exposé of the multi-billion dollar coffee industry tracing one man's fight for fair trade. There will be a chance to sample some fair trade coffees from Coffee Mocha before the film and Katherine Crawley, who is Head of Global Development for the film, will be introducing taking questions after the screening.
On Friday 21st September we welcome Guy Watson, the farmer who has brought us Riverford organic veg boxes to give a talk on farming the organic way. His talk, at Fisherton Mill, Salisbury will be preceded by a cheese and wine tasting with delicious samples from local producers.
Children aged 5 – 11 are invited to enter a competition to invent a scrumptious sandwich. Sponsored by Waitrose the winners will be invited to create an autumn feast with their classmates at the Waitrose Studio and the runners up will have their entries published on our website. The sandwich must include at least one ingredient that is locally produced and will be judged on the combination of ingredients.
