Nature of Art In Wessex
Nature of Art in Wessex is a project managed by Salisbury International Arts Festival. Funding has been awarded until 2012 by Natural England & Big Lottery Fund.
Nature Of Art In Wessex will work with communities in Laverstock, Salisbury and in Southampton, Isle Of Wight, Portsmouth, Bournemouth and the M4 Corridor in North Wiltshire.
The project addresses a growing need in Wessex for rural and urban communities to have good access to natural greenspace. The project will particularly be focussed on improving access of green spaces through art for the young, the elderly and people with a physical or mental impairment.
Activities so far have included making willow lanterns with community groups shaped like a fish called the Grayling; taking part in Salisbury's Christmas Lantern Parade; leading tile making workshops inspired by nature walks throughout Laverstock Parish; and creating 'A Walk On The Wildside' - an art trail made from over 100 of the tiles. |
Over the three years of the project Nature Of Art In Wessex will benefit communities in Wessex by:
• Encouraging people to think about using their local natural spaces in creative and innovative ways.
• Providing people with the opportunity to participate in art activities in the natural environment.
• Increasing people’s confidence about accessing the natural environment.
• Teaching people new skills through arts activities in the natural environment.
• Creating a regional network of similar communities who are committed to art inspired by nature.
