Lydiard Park, Swindon

Lydiard Park

Lydiard Park is owned by Swindon Borough Council and includes an exquisite house, walled garden and landscaped park.  Within the 260 acres of the park there are a number of popular attractions used regularly by the people of Swindon including a large play ground, café, bicycle hire, picnic area, bbq’s to hire, a conference centre, an historic house, woodland and lakeside walk.

Lydiard House and Park are situated just off the M4 on the East of Swindon.  A number of housing estates are close to the park and since Radio 1’s ‘Big Weekend’ was hosted at the park a large number of local young people use the park, especially during holidays. The park hosts a number of annual events including Heritage Open Days, Sports festivals and a ‘Big Arts Day’ each July.

Nature Of Art In Wessex is working with the team at Lydiard Park to create a Story Tree in 2012.  The project will begin with a series of workshops, run by an artist, in which different stories and creatures that may be found in the park are explored.  The artist will collate individual images together into one overall design a Story Tree ready for a carver to create.  The Story Tree will be installed permanently at Lydiard Park and become a central part of their education programme.
