Peg Bug Resource Pack
At the Hollybank Woods Open Day in 2011 the local Brownies led a great workshop for young children making 'peg bugs'. This is a fabulous activity for preschool and younger children and uses things almost everyone will have at home. Be warned, it can get addictive and you might end up with a peg menagerie! Printing Resource Pack
In Spring 2011 artist Nicola Henshaw worked with residents in Emsworth, Portsmouth to create an art trail in Hollybank Woods. Nicola led workshops making printed banners featuring nature found in Hollybank Woods with Orchard Children's Centre, Westbourne School, Glenwood Special School, U3A, Westbourne Scouts & Westbourne Brownies.
The 150 finished prints were displayed at the Hollybank Woods Open Day on 21 May 2011. Nicola also used the prints to inspire a series of woodcarvings which have been permanently sited around the woods to create an art trail.

Tile Making Resource Pack
In 2010 artists Charlotte Moreton and Mirka Golden-Hann led a series of workshops making clay tiles with groups in Laverstock, near Salisbury. The tiles were made fom natural clay and dyes and all featured flora and fauna found in the local downs and meadows. The pig was from the River Bourne Community Farm!
In total 227 people took part in the project ranging in age from 2 - 93. The tiles were used to create 'A Walk On The Wildside' during Salisbury International Arts Festival 2010 - a trail starting fron the River Bourne Community Farm showcasing the tiles.
Click here to download the Tile Making Resource Pack if you fancy making your own tiles. This is a great project for community groups and schools but you could have a go at home as well. The tiles can be made with clay that needs firing or airdry clay if you don't have access to a kiln. However some venues will provide a firing service so why not ask you local arts centre or school?
Flying Bird Resource Pack
Charlotte Moreton worked with a range of groups who lived in and around the River Bourne Community Farm, Laverstock in Spring 2011. Groups made sculptures inspired by nature to create a trail around the parish. This trail included a number of permanent art works which will be added to in 2012 to make a larger and permanent Laverstock Downs and Meadows Trail.
One of the workshops involved making beautiful flying birds. Using wood or paper you can make and decorate birds that fly in the breeze. The Resource Pack includes ideas of markings found on native birds you could copy and some lovely activities you could lead in the natural environment.
Click here to download the Flying Bird Resource Pack As with all our packs the birds can be made with all ages and abilities - we have led this activity with 2 year olds and residents in a local care home.
Wind Garden Resource Pack
Nature of Art In Wessex worked in the Isle of Wight for the first time in 2011. We worked with artists Eccleston George to create a Wind Garden at One Horse Field, Totland.
Community groups including Freshwater Scouts, Funky Friends Youth Club, Osel Group, St Georges Special School, St Saviours School and Isle of Wight College Students made art which was moved and played by the wind - recycled wind chimes, beautiful flags, and paper windmills.
Eccleston George, Gift To Nature and Salisbury International Arts Festival showcased all the work made and led activities at One Horse Field on 3 June 2011 to create the Wind Garden. It was a gloriously sunny day and all the visitors loved seeing the wildflower meadow transformed for a day.
Cick here to download the Wind Garden Resource Pack which shows you how to make your own paper windmill and origami butterfly. The pack also includes some information about One Horse Field and some activities you could try wherever you are.
