About the Festival Sing for Water performances
Our Sing for Water events reflected the themes for this year’s Festival of India, spirit and water. Choirs and singing groups from Wiltshire and Hampshire sang together in the magnificent settings of Salisbury Cathedral Close and Danebury Hill Fort, and performed a new song made specially for the occasion, led by acclaimed composer and conductor Howard Moody.
Our new song, Sing for Water, is based on the folk song Waly Waly (The Water is Wide). It was written by children from Broad Chalke Primary School, Wiltshire, and arranged by Howard Moody. The children, inspired by the valley where they live, used the four elements of water, air, earth, and fire as a starting point for developing the words and music of the song.
Groups taking part in Sing for Water for the Festival were: Andover Loft Museum Singers, Downton Community Choir, Whitchurch Singing for Fun group and members of the Salisbury Festival Chorus.
The performance at Danebury Hill Fort was generously supported by Hampshire County Council.
